Polarized optical microscopy
image (crossed polarizers) of a liquid
crystalline precursor to a new thermochromic
polymer.
The emission characteristics of
polymers formed from this and similar photoluminescent
chromophores can strongly vary with the supramolecular
architecture of the system. This dependence can be exploited
by integrating such dyes as molecular deformation
and temperature sensors
in a polymer of choice.
